Which posts or types of posts to migrate in? [closed]

This question cannot be answered in its current form, because critical information is missing.

This question was closed; new answers can no longer be added. Users with the reopen privilege may vote to reopen this question if it has been improved or closed incorrectly.

Following from the previous related question, Migrate posts in?, and from the site proposal, we have decided to be selective about which questions, or at categories of questions, to import from Photo-SE.

So, let's start figuring out what to import. I suggest let's figure out types of posts (by subject, tag, etc?). I anticipate that there are several "singleton", important posts that might not fit a category. In those cases, let's just identify them as the singletons, and perhaps start to list them.

I'm not sure the Q&A format will work well to list the several tens or hundreds of posts, but's let's start here and see how it goes.

Edit (several months later):

In retrospect, I'm glad questions weren't migrated in from Photo-SE. Instead, perhaps lists in the answers below could be examples of the types of questions we might want to consider writing for FAQs. Just a suggestion.

Specific Suggestion: What do all those cryptic number and letter codes in a lens name mean?

I suggest this question be broken up into individual questions per manufacturer, and set up as a bunch of FAQs. So it would look something like:

  • What do the letters and numbers mean in the names of Nikon lenses?
  • What do the letters and numbers mean in the names of Canon lenses?
  • What do the letters and numbers mean in the names of Sony lenses?
  • What do the letters and numbers mean in the names of Pentax lenses?
  • etc. ...

As well as another few FAQs to point to those Q&As, by feature:

  • How are lenses for crop-sensor bodies identified?
  • How are lenses with image stabilization identified?
  • How are lenses with special optical features identified?

Which posts or types of posts to migrate in?

None of them.

For this site to be successful, it needs to have activity here. Copying posts from SE only creates the illusion of activity, then becomes worse than useless when people realize after reading the whole question, that it was was asked and answered years ago.

For people to come here, the site needs to be better than elsewhere. Obviously copying content from elsewhere doesn't achieve that.

This site is dying due to lack of activity. If you want to save it, create some real activity. Invite people interested in photography to come here, and to spread the word that this is a good place to get answers. Have the experts you invite each write a few home-grown canonical questions to get things started. These can be similar to those they have written elsewhere, but re-writing gives the opportunity to clean them up, clarify a little, etc.

I was already here on Codidact for other reasons. I keep checking this site, but it's been feeling more and more like a waste of time. The latest activity in most catagories is days to weeks old.

Singleton/Canonical Posts

These are the highest-valued, often-referenced, no-need-to-rewrite questions and answers. Having the highest vote doesn't necessarily automatically mean the question should be included, it's a good filter. Is the question/answers often referenced or cited? Good chance it belongs here.
